Getting started
Logging-In
The database will contain records that relate to individual LCAs. In order to create a record for the LCA that you have an interest in, it is necessary that you first register as the contact for maintaining that record - click 'Register Member' on the log-in screen. This logging-in process creates a unique identity for your record, which ensures that you - and only you - are able to modify its contents. This unique identity also provides us with a point of contact, should we have any queries about your record. Please note that the information you supply in the logging-in process will not be made publicly available, and will only be held by the project team for the purposes of administering the database.
IMPORTANT: You must ensure that your web-browser has 'cookies' enabled before logging-in and accessing the database. Cookies are small computer files that allow your browser to remember specific information, which the web server can later retrieve (eg. your username and password). YOUR WEB BROWSER WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE COOKIES ENABLED BY DEFAULT. Otherwise, consult the Help file on your browser or click here for more information.
On logging-in for the first time you will be sent an email containing your username and password - please keep this email on file, should you need to refer back to it in the future (for example, when updating your record). Should you forget or misplace your password, simply click on the button marked 'Send Password' on the Log-In screen and a reminder of your password will be sent to you via email
The information required for logging-in is as follows:
- Name
- Organisation
- Position held by respondent
- Email address of respondent (this will be your username)
- Password (automatically generated)
- Telephone contact
Where to Start?
Once you have logged-in you are ready to complete your record. You will now be taken to the Control Page - this page allows you to navigate to the main sections of your record, to see your responses and to save the current session and exit. If this is your first time inputting information about your LCA, please click on the button marked 'Start Record' - this will take you to the first section of the record, entitled 'Basic Information.'
Upon logging-in, you may also notice that the green navigation strip (left of page) now contains a progress indicator - a vertical list of section headings and page numbers (black type), designed to provide a quick reference of your position within the overall form; indicated by the arrow shape. Please note that you cannot use the progress indicator to jump between pages - ie. it is not hyper-linked. This is to prevent you from accidentally skipping pages within the form.
IMPORTANT: In order to navigate the form, please use the 'Save & Next' and 'Back' buttons, located at the bottom of the page. DO NOT use the 'Forward' and 'Backward' buttons on your web browser toolbar as this may result in data loss. Furthermore, please note: clicking the 'Back' button does not save your data - only the 'Save & Next' button has this function.
The links above the progress bar - Home, About, Help, Contact - allow you to return to the rest of the site at your convenience (eg. to access the Help pages) without having to log-out of your record. Note that these links will appear in a new browser window (often termed a 'pop up') - this is to ensure that you do not accidentally log-out of your record when revisiting the rest of the site. You may close the pop up window at any time without affecting your record.
The form is divided into 3 colour-coded sections for your convenience. Each section is divided into several pages:
- Basic Information (red): this section of the database contains basic information about your LCA and details of how to access it. We recommend that you complete this section first. This section contains 5 pages.
- LCA Method (blue): this section of the database collects information describing the method that was used for your LCA. This section contains 6 pages.
- Evaluation and Applications (green): this section of the database contains information about how your LCA has been used to support decision making. This section contains 6 pages.
We strongly recommend that you first complete section one - Basic Information - before moving on to sections two and three. This will ensure that key information, such as contact details and a general overview of your LCA, is obtained as early as possible for the purposes of administration and database utility.
IMPORTANT: You are required to input contact details for the LCA in section one of the database. Please note this information will be made publicly available over the internet; unlike information supplied during the logging-in process which will remain undisclosed (see Logging-In).
