Update of the Landscape Character Assessment Guidance

Questionnaire survey to inform update of the landscape character assessment guidance

Natural England, with Scottish Natural Heritage, are currently reviewing and revising the Landscape Character Assessment (LCA) Guidance for England and Scotland (2002) and related Topic Papers. Land Use Consultants have been appointed to undertake the review and prepare the new guidance.

The guidance will be updated to reflect its current use, good practice, and the European Landscape Convention (ELC). It will include new topics and additional related guidance that may be needed. The guidance will be used to promote the increased use of landscape character assessment in the planning, protection and management of our environment.

An online questionnaire provided an opportunity to help shape the structure, content and format of the new LCA guidance.

Issue 33 of LCN News includes an article by Christine Tudor and an accompanying comment piece by Carys Swanwick about the LCA guidance update.
