The theme of the Conference is broadly established as "Cultural Landscape" inspired by the belief that preservation and protection of globally, nationally, regionally and locally significant cultural landscapes, both designed and vernacular, are critical to sustaining the continuum of land use and history across generations. Protection of these cultural resources offers inspirational values and an appreciation of past and present ingenuity, accomplishments, hardships, and hopes, as well as insight into future land use and design solutions. We believe that interpretation, public use and appreciation of cultural landscape resources both in public and private domain should be viewed as an integral part of their preservation and sustainability.

In addition to keynote addresses and symposia given by invited speakers, individuals are invited to submit abstracts for both paper and poster presentations.

The official language of the conference is English. Authors wishing to submit a paper should submit an abstract to one of the following tracks by February 2nd 2010:

  • Responses of cultural landscapes to changing natural processes (such as climate change, re-colonization of abandoned lands, impact of emerging need for sustainability etc.)
  • Landscapes as a reflection of changing cultural processes (such as globalization, multiculturalism, emerging awareness to sustainability, etc.)
  • Technology as a driver of cultural landscape change (such as international styles, disappearing vernacular styles as a result of increased visual images through internet as well as advanced technology to enable new construction methods and techniques and capability to use new materials or recycled materials, etc.)
  • Education, research methods and approaches (such as profession based education, multi-disciplinary education, interdisciplinary education, EU format, USA and the Canadian format, Eastern and Pacific Rim format)
